When buying healthy yogurt, it's important to always carefully read the information on the label. This advice comes from biologist and university lecturer Irina Lyalina.
According to her, it is the composition and expiration date that can indicate whether the product is truly beneficial or contains additional ingredients.
She points out that fermented dairy products with a very long shelf life often contain various additives – stabilizers, thickeners, preservatives or sweeteners. These substances are used to preserve the product for a longer time and improve its texture, but this does not always mean that it is healthier.
According to the specialist, the best choice is yogurt with a short shelf life and the shortest possible list of ingredients – usually just milk and sourdough. Such products more often contain live beneficial bacteria and retain their natural nutritional qualities. Therefore, consumers should not only trust advertising or the inscription “healthy”, but carefully check exactly what is written on the label.
