Fish Eye: A Small Injury on the Outside, but Much More Complex on the Inside.

Many people confuse a  "plantar corn"  with a common callus, which are generally caused by friction on the skin, but the reality is that they are not the same.

Plantar warts are lesions that appear on the soles of the feet and are associated with a virus that affects only the skin. These lesions usually appear as small, hard, and painful warts when walking on the foot, especially if they have dark spots in the center.

There is a belief that these warts have "roots" or "thorns," but this is incorrect. What is observed in the center, with the physical characteristics of an eye, are:Small blood vessels, which can be seen as dark spots.

– Skin changes caused by irritation and pressure on the foot.

This means you shouldn't try to remove or manipulate them at home, as the area can become easily irritated. Warts on the feet often grow inwards due to pressure from body weight.

This can cause:

– The deep tissues of the foot are compressed.
– The pain appears immediately upon stepping.
– Walking is uncomfortable, as if there were a small object under the skin.

How to acquire them

The virus that causes warts enters through micro-fissures in the skin, especially in environments where moisture facilitates exposure, so it is easier to become infected in places such as public showers, swimming pools, and even by using changing rooms, whether through socks, shoes, or gloves of someone who has it.

It is important to emphasize that its appearance does not signify a lack of hygiene; this is a skin infection that can affect anyone.

Once it appears, you should avoid trying to cut, tear, or file these lesions without supervision, as this can irritate the surrounding skin, increase discomfort, and cause the lesion to persist longer. Therefore, it is important to avoid any attempt at manipulation at home.

Appropriate treatment

Plantar warts usually require professional treatment. Options used by specialists include:

– Controlled applications of keratolytic substances
– Cold treatments
– Techniques with specialized light or laser

It is important to emphasize that this text is for informational purposes only and does not replace the evaluation of a healthcare professional. If the lesion grows, becomes more painful, changes color, or makes walking difficult, it is best to consult a dermatologist or podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis and safe treatment.
